“Run”, “diet” and “exercise”– none of those words sound fun to me. What does sound fun is “eating” and “cooking”. How about some 2018 kitchen resolutions that fun and serve a purpose? Kitchen resolutions may not be something that spring to mind on New Year’s Eve, but the right kitchen resolution can set you up for a long future of better eating and easier cooking! Most un-fun resolutions will be discarded by the end of January. But a 2018 kitchen resolution can be a guiding force all year long.
FORGET Don’ts: Fill your kitchen with do’s!
Regular resolutions focus on stopping a habit. As soon as someone tells me I can’t do something, I’m sure as Hell gonna do it (even if that someone was ME!). So, let’s make our 2018 kitchen resolutions things that we get to do and not things that we want to stop doing. How’s that sound?
So, what’s the first thing you want to do?
Try these kitchen resolutions on for size, with your lifestyle in mind:
Simplify– You want to find recipes that have faster prep times and that only use a few ingredients or dishes (I don’t know about you, but I HATE dishes). Check out this post on tasty recipes using the Rockcrok! This one pot wonder will take your meals from the stove, to oven, grill, broiler and even the microwave all in one pot. To help you simplify even further, consider creating a binder with 3 weeks worth of meals and rotating them out. You’ll learn each recipe by heart making prep time even faster because you’ll already know what to do!
Healthier– Need more veg and less processed in your diet? Try this resolution! There’s an amazing recipe using spiralized zucchini and a homemade sauce instead of pasta and a jar sauce. So healthy. So easy. This will certainly be an easier kitchen resolution than “stop eating pasta/carbs”! Be sure to check out that spiralizer while you’re there too… it’s not just for zucchini!
Prepared– Prep freezer meals in one day so when you’re ready to eat, you toss them in your Rockcrok or skillet and walk away. If you’re not into freezer meals, then this post on prep work is sure to help you feel more prepared when cooking! Planning out a week’s worth of meals is a great practice, too. Not only does it make prep easier, but you’ll never be caught without your cloves again!
Organized– Are your cabinets are a mess and it’s hard to find anything in the clutter? Consider this 2018 kitchen resolution! Can you replace 3 items with one new multi-use gadget? Do it! Throw out tools and cookware that are old or broken. Ya know, the one that’s held together with duct tape and you have to stand on one foot for it to work right. Do you need to tell your family that those black flakes are pepper, when it’s really your non-stick coating flaking off of your pan? Ditch it! Then get yourself a new one. Pro tip: host a party with me and we can get you some super rewards and deals. No full price for you, my friend!
Family– get your family involved in the cooking! Take some pressure off of you and set your kids up with crucial skills. Even kids as young as 2 can help in the kitchen. There are some wonderful tips on the Pampered Chef blog!
No matter which 2018 kitchen resolution you choose, make sure it is something that speaks to you. Don’t choose something because you “should”- you won’t have the passion for it and then it becomes a chore. And remember, we don’t like chores!!
